Stone Town Foodie Walk
Zanzibar City, Tanzania
“Taste Stone Town's soul through centuries of spice-trade flavors, one delicious bite at a time.”
Embark on a flavourful grassroots “Foodie Walk”; a discovery of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town through its food history The tour starts off at Forodhani Gardens for a briefing of the tour drawing from Zanzibar’s eclectic food heritage. This tour features a walk through the narrow winding streets of Stone Town, discovering the archipelago’s rich food culture, which has drawn influences from the Portuguese who brought the staple ‘boflo bread’, the Omani/Yemeni who introduced their coffee served at many ‘coffee corners’, the Indians who came with their ‘bhajia & kachori’ from Gujarat, that is now a staple part of the ‘Zanzibar Urojo mix’ and much more. The highlight of the tour is ofcourse in the tasting of the various foods at ‘local joints’; where one learns of Zanzibar’s heritage right in the middle of the buzzing old town.
